Things to do

Although there is plenty to keep you busy at Les Landes, you will also want to explore the local area, renowned for its rivers and hilltop villages.  In the summer there are regular open air communal meals in the evenings in surrounding villages where it is cheap to eat, and you usually end up with music and dance as well.

There are various local markets; the nearest ones on Saturday mornings at Varen for food, and a more expensive and touristy version at St Antonin Noble Val in Sunday mornings are well worth a visit.

On a rainy day the beautifully restored Abbeye de Beauville – now a modern art gallery is an inspiring visit.  The Grotte de Bosc underground cave is also an interesting tour.

And take the chance to book a day’s canoeing on the Aveyron river from St Antonin, where you can swim in the river as you canoe.

Cordes Sur Ciel is a lovely hill top village just 20 mins drive away where the Jardins de Paradis are stunning.

Bruniqel and Penne are also quaint and beautiful old hill top villages, and Najac is renowned for its magnificent views.

There are good restaurants in St Antonin and Cordes sur Ciel and the Terrace at Penne gets good reviews as does the Deux Rivieres at Laguepie.

Finally, there’s lots of fantastic walking or cycling in the local countryside.  And you can even go wine tasting!
